Students at Yale are building a new Gaza solidarity encampment ahead of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's visit to the New Haven, Connecticut, school – almost a year after dozens were arrested in the same spot. The students are demanding that Yale divest from Israeli weapons manufacturers.
Ben-Gvir is scheduled to speak Wednesday at Shabtai, a Jewish society at Yale. His only official events are with the group, on Wednesday in New Haven, and Thursday in New York. He is not scheduled to meet with any officials from the Trump administration.
The students' move comes in defiance of the Trump administration's sweeping crackdown on pro-Palestinian activism on campus, which has included visa revocations, arrests, and federal funding threats against universities.
About eight tents have been erected, with students locking arms in rings around them. Though there has been no word yet on disciplinary action, university administrators are on site.
